Tampere UN Association’s year is starting again and we have already organized our first event last week! This year our association’s theme is Multicultural Tampere. We want to develop both our events and the our association toward a more international direction. We will organize more of our events in English, to make it easier for a wider audience to join our activities. Our goal is to act as an independent and open-minded platform for people in the Tampere region who are interested in global issues and the work of the United Nations.
Last week at our internship evening organized together with the European Youth of Tampere students had the opportunity to hear about internship possibilities and experiences in UN and EU bodies. Our next week’s event, ‘Have a drink with TAYK’ on the 23d of February in the cosy cafe Kahvilla, is something I’m personally excited about and want to promote a little! We will be joined by Finland’s UN Youth Delegate 2016 Sonja Huttunen, who will open the evening with the topic ‘Youth as Peacemakers’. We will have the opportunity to ask questions and continue the discussion in a casual and relaxed setting. The event is also a unique opportunity to hear about the work of UN Youth Delegates. ‘Have a drink with TAYK’ is an event series, where we invite interesting speakers to present and discuss current societal issues.
Our board has already been planning for the upcoming year and we have a lot of events to look forward to. As a reminder, our board meetings are open year round for anyone interested in joining organizing our events and being a part of our association. Stay tuned for our events, let’s continue to keep up the UN spirit together!
